2020-A YEAR WITH NEW PROMISE

We welcome the year of rat as we say goodbye to the year of pig.
 
When we retrospect at the end of the year, days just slipped away like a moment but the past days were really taken seriously by us. The journey was long but quite rewarding.


2019
 
Chronicle of events of Beshining in 2019

 
In January:

Our team was awarded China Outstanding Intellectual Property Service Team for four consecutive years (from 2015 to 2018).
 
In February:

We carried out reforms in our system and structure which moved a new step forward.
 
In March:
 
We celebrated the sixth anniversary of the founding of Beshining.
 
In April:
 
Liangang YE, an American lawyer and patent attorney, joined us as a senior partner.
 
In May:
 
We attended the 141th INTA Annual Meeting in Boston.
 
In June:
 
We took a trip to Yuntai Moutain in Jiaozuo City of Henan Province.
 
In August: 
 
Jiechao XU, Lang LUO and Jie LI had been promoted to partners with over 8-year working experience in Beshining.
 
In September:
 
“A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO IN-HOUSE COUNSELS”, compiled by our team, was published;
 
We participated in the 10th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference in Hangzhou;
 
We attended 2019 AIPPI World Congress in London;
 
We launched a series of courses for developing managerial personnel.
 
In November:
 
Qi XUE, managing partner of Beshining, was elected as the director of All-China Patent Attorneys Association;
 
Our new office was set up on the 26th floor of SFECO Mansion.
 
In December: 
 
We granted an interview to INTELLIGEAST and the relevant article had been published on the
“Interviews with Outstanding Lawyers of China——The 40th Anniversary Edition”;
 
Our team was awarded China Outstanding Intellectual Property Service Team for five consecutive years (from 2015 to 2019).
 
In 2019, Beshining had mounted a new step. So far, we have nearly 150 staff, and our offices have expanded to Shanghai, Wuhan, Xi’an and Changsha. Jiechao XU, Lang LUO and Jie LI had been promoted to partners with over 8-year working experience in Beshining. In addition, after Liangang YE (an American lawyer and patent attorney) and Xiangxi SHEN (a Korean patent attorney) became members of us, our partner team had further enlarged and had also brought enormous impetus for our overseas patent and legal business.
 
With respect to performance, intellectual property agency business of Beshining has advanced steadily. The quantity of patent and trademark agency business at home and abroad has been significantly improved, among which there are many complicated cases with high quality and high requirements. The workload is huge, and the requirements are numerous and complex. We continue to branch out business in new regions and industries, such as the construction of patent databases in the countries with minority languages and a growing number of trademark cases in more countries. When confronted with challenges, employees here always grasp the nettle: painstaking reading and research on the laws and regulations of other countries, clear and detailed analysis of task assignment, proactive assistance from colleagues of other departments by hanging together and diligently working deep into the night. It is our sheer persistence of scaling new heights and our belief of “Quality is our priority” that makes us successfully completing our clients’ assignments that has won their praise and trust. Whether the further improvement of team capability and coordination in cooperation or the accomplishment of our own missions again through overcoming the difficulties, the sense of fulfilment and delight is self-evident.
 
Beshining is characterized by intellectual property business in the legal service field. Our lawyers are proficient in the theory of laws and also have intimate knowledge of intellectual property at the technical level due to their strong technical background and imperceptible influence in the daily work so that Beshining has high win rates in IP cases. In recent years, our legal department has also extensively recruited new talents and explored new business. In 2019, our non-IP cases accounted for over 40% of total legal cases, higher than that of a year earlier.
 
Let professional people give full play to their expertise. In the management control of domestic and overseas patent agency cases, Beshining has always let the patent attorneys absorb in the understanding of technical solutions and proposed claims , and let specialized personnel of process management to supervise case management, the procedures, the flow,  the time-limits, and the receiving, dispatching and filing of the documents. In 2019, facing up with increasingly colossal amount of business, fitting in with the new procedures after the optimization and reform of the division, our staff of patent process management are not afraid of changes and still devote themselves entirely to doing brilliant jobs with positive attitudes and resilience.
 
In the second half of 2016, in order to reduce the burden and consumption of manpower, strengthen the mechanism of control and supervision, standardize the handling of cases, make the operation of the business more orderly, rigorous and efficient, Beshining invested one million yuan to launch the work of developing a customized management software so as to achieve intelligent, systematic and standardized team management. “When you drive a BMW, you can run fast, but if you drive it in the field, can you still run fast? Our software is like a superhighway.” Qi XUE, managing partner of Beshining, described the system in this way. Hua ZHONG, senior partner of Beshining, had general charge of the development work with main assistance from IT department and debugging feedback from various divisions. After two and a half years, we finally succeeded in building the " superhighway "--IPS+. This system, tailor-made for Beshining, emerging from the professional management system of intellectual property office, helps Beshining forge ahead swiftly. During the process of completing IPS+, colleagues in the IT department took on the responsibility for daily maintenance of the company's systems and had spent many energies in the debugging and development of IPS+ in the meantime. Moreover, by the end of 2019, they set up the telephone and network in the new office on the 26th floor within two months. They really had made a great contribution to the company.
 
Beshining's development is not only based on the professional standard, but also sincerity dedicated to the customers. We do not just follow the same contract and process to serve our customers, but render them demand-based, personalized and warm services. To adhere to the aim “ For You, Protect You, Help You Achieve Success” and to timely make an introspection and adjustments, the Department of Customer Management Services, an important bridge between Beshining and the customers, is open-minded to take advice and frequently gather feedback from the customers apart from collecting information and learning about their requirements.
 
Beshining is a workplace as well as a warm family. In 2019, under the arrangement of the trade union, to promote exchanges among employees, make them more familiar, and add interest to their daily life, Beshining had organized a number of activities such as going on a tour, planting the trees, sharing books and watching movies; to make employees feel sufficiently secure, Beshining also had provided them with physical examination, applications of public rental housing, housing subsidies and other benefits of what they really need. On one hand, Beshining helps employees grow rapidly in the profession through the advanced teaching and guidance system, on the other hand, Beshining has established mentor clubs where mentors are able to share their experience to the members and answer questions for them. In this way, all the club members can find their bearings and reference when confronted with confusion in their life and future prospect.
 
Only when basic skills are fully practiced can we go out with capital and confidence. In the past, Beshining was more focused on immersing itself in the profession, building its professionalism and was not anxious to show its abilities. Therefore, when opportunities come, we are always well prepared. Eventually, after our team had been low-key and unassuming in strenuous work for over 10 years, Beshining has the confidence to present itself with ease. In 2019, our firm organized more than 70 public lectures, including a series of orientation training courses for patent attorneys from July to September; we aid Shanghai International Trade Service Base for Overseas Intellectual Property Rights Protection in organizing five foreign-related lectures which involve intellectual property updates of America, Japan, Europe and South Korea; our senior patent attorneys delivered more than 40 lectures outside the firm and were well received and recognized by the audience; we went in for more than 50 activities including international events in Japan, America, UK, and Switzerland. Take 2019 AIPPI Annual Congress in London for example: it was the first time for us to attend this event. We communicated with our customers and other attendees from nearly 40 foreign agencies we had never met before to further explicate the culture of Beshining and show them our confidence. Due to this opportunity, we had expanded our international operations--over 10 well-known foreign law firms established good cooperative ties with Beshining soon after the conference.  
 
The man of virtue, while establishing himself and pursing success, also works to establish others and enable them to succeed as well. In 2019, Beshining assumed social responsibility more energetically and spread its spirit by sharing information and exchanging ideas. Writing books, expounding views, sharing experience: “INVENTIVE STEP” complied by our team will come off the press in 2020; “A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO IN-HOUSE COUNSELS” was published by Law Press of China in 2019; Benefiting offspring: we have set up scholarships in seven domestic universities to this day, and avail ourselves of this opportunity to exchange experience with them and resolve their doubts.
 
In 2019, we were deeply grateful to attain great honour with your support and kindness which would inspire us to brave difficulties and go forward.

2020

This year turns out to be different due to a sudden outbreak of COVID-19. For one thing, some disruptions of our plans are inevitable, some proactive measures are implemented as well as much more containment efforts are made such as restrictions of our travel, delays of our IP events and rescheduling of other significant appointments. For another thing, it also brings new opportunities for our IP industry, expecially for those who are highly praised and trusted by the clients. 
 
After China's Spring Festival holiday, our firm promptly imposed work-at-home mode in order to guarantee the safety of the staff and took extra precautions to keep the workplace safe if we needed to work on the premises. After coming back to work, we are closely monitoring the developing virus situation in China and other regions around the world. We are also continuously advocating Chinese Government’s calling and watching the advisories and guidelines issued by the international health agencies. Therefore, we are able to carry out our business methodically and promise no delay in any of our cases during the pandemic. At present, thanks to our government's strict containment measures imposed at the onset of the outbreak in late January, most people adversely affected in China  have already recovered and our lives can get back to normal in a short time. 

 

People who are virtuous will not be lonely and there must be like-minded friends accompanying themselves. All along, the development of Beshining can hardly be achieved without the trust and encouragement of customers, interchange and support among competitors, assistance and promotion of friends. In the future, we will persist in the values of cultivation--"One, Two, Three, Four, Five", the principle of "Profession, Concentration, Dedication" and the goal of "For you, Protect you, Help you achieve success". We will learn from each other, help each other, develop and progress together, and expect to become your close comrades and reliable associates in the domain of intellectual property and law.
